About Us

The PlaySpace is Primarily a small Playgroup/ School that caters for children between 18 months and 3 years old, Mondays-Fridays. The children can stay at The PlaySpace for the whole year that they are 3 years old and will move onto Gr 000 from us.

We cater for 2 groups of children, splitting them by their age groups. 

Yellow (children turning 2 years old in the current year)

Green group (children turning 3yrs old in the current year)

They may attend 2/3/4 or 5 days a week. 

There is aftercare everyday until 2:30pm

Who runs The PlaySpace? 

The school is run by Ariadni Hind, known as Az, a qualified teacher specialising in Early

Childhood Development and the Foundation phase with over 17 years teaching experience with children ranging from 0-9 years old. 

With experience from teaching at Westville Junior Primary, Cygnet Prep School as well as owning Toptots Westville for 3 years, Ariadni is passionate, equipped, and capable with running a school as well as teaching young children. She is super passionate about child development and loves teaching children through a very hands-on and fun approach! As a mom of three girls (15,12 and 9yrs old) Az also loves working with parents, supporting, and encouraging them through the sometimes trying Toddler years.

Melissa Hatch teaches alongside Az. She is a qualified teacher, also specialising in the ECD and Foundation phases. She has 8 years teaching experience also previously worked at Cygnet Prep and as part of Az’s Toptots’ staff team. She has definitely been called to work with this age group, and it is so evident in the loving way in which she deals with the children.

Ester has worked alongside Az since 2016 and is the kindest and calmest lady ever.

Vivian is so patient and loving and always ready to comfort the children. 

Sethu brings all the fun and energy and is always up for playing with the children.

Together this team of ladies make sure that the school is kept spotless, that the children are well-cared for and that they feel all the love. They also assist with potty training and nappy changing.

Where is The PlaySpace?

The PlaySpace is on Az Hind’s property in Cowies Hill. It is a completely separate area of the property and has a beautiful, big, open, shaded, and safe garden for the children to play in. 

The classroom is an open plan space, with a separate kitchen and storeroom as well as a bathroom with a nappy changing area. 

We have 2 spaces that we split the younger and older children for concept teaching. Az generally teaches the older children and Mel teaches the younger ones, but we work closely with all the children and get to know them equally well.

The school is fenced, secure and safe. There is parking for parents inside the property. 

School Ethos

The PlaySpace is run by a Christian staff, however we embrace and are respectful of others' cultural and religious beliefs. All are welcome at The PlaySpace.

We firmly believe that South African children should learn about each other and show kindness and tolerance towards each other regardless of race, religion, or culture.

We acknowledge and teach the children about most of the main cultural celebrations (Easter, Eid, Diwali, Christmas) throughout the year.
